Multinet Up and Koruncuk Foundation, in collaboration, announced that the container school they established to ensure that educational activities could continue uninterrupted at Pazarcık İstiklal Halil Arık Secondary School, which was destroyed in the earthquake, has become operational.

The first school bell rang at the 8-unit container school, which was completed in Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş as part of the collaboration between Multinet Up and Koruncuk Foundation.

The 8-unit container school will serve 210 students in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Figen Samuray, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors of the Koruncuk Foundation, whose views were included in the statement, noted the following:

She explained that this year they increased the quotas for 'Koruncuk villages' and quickly opened the doors of their dormitories to girls affected by the earthquake.

In addition, Samuray stated that they started working in the earthquake zone from the very first day, and emphasized that, in line with their foundation's theme, they have been actively involved in and continue to develop projects focusing on education and girls' access to education.

Samurai stated that education must continue uninterrupted for social life to improve and for children to have a healthier future, and added the following:

‘'Approximately 5 million children are in the earthquake zone, and these children have lost their living spaces, and most importantly, their privacy. Our greatest wish is for these children, deprived of personal space, to quickly find new and healthy environments. Children who had to quickly adapt to distance learning due to the pandemic are now permanently distanced from education due to the earthquake. We will continue to work to ensure that no child is deprived of their fundamental right to education, regardless of the circumstances. Today, in collaboration with Multinet Up, we are opening the İstiklal Halil Arık Middle School as a container school. I believe that with the contributions of socially responsible institutions to civil society and public sector collaborations, we will heal the wounds of the earthquake. I thank everyone who contributed to the construction of our container school; thank you for being there. I wish all students a successful new academic year.'’

Multinet Up CEO Ali Emre Sever, recalling that the earthquakes directly affected more than 9 million people living in 11 provinces, including approximately 5 million children, 4 million of whom are of school age, stated the following:

‘'While this impact continues in every aspect of social life, education has also been disrupted for a long period. 72 schools were destroyed and 3,368 schools were damaged in the earthquake zone. In Kahramanmaraş, 821 out of 1,018 schools reopened for the new term. The disruption of educational processes, which were already negatively affected by the pandemic, after the earthquake is a critical issue in many respects, from the psychological and social development of children to the normalization of social life. Therefore, in order for educational activities to continue smoothly, the missing structures need to be rebuilt as soon as possible and the conditions in the region need to be improved. For this, strengthening cooperation between the public sector, the private sector, and civil society is essential.'’
