Access to Education on the 3rd Anniversary of the Earthquake
The “Access to Education on the 3rd Anniversary of the Earthquake” conference, organized by the Koruncuk Foundation with the support of the European Union, brought together civil society organizations, public representatives, and academics to address the problems and solutions related to protecting the right to education of children in the earthquake zone with a holistic approach.
During the sessions held within the scope of the conference, it was emphasized that gender-based obstacles such as housing, transportation, and infrastructure deficiencies, as well as the caregiving burden undertaken by girls, make it difficult for them to continue their education. Academics, NGO representatives, and experts from the field pointed out the need for psychosocial support for teachers, the creation of inclusive educational environments, the establishment of mobile and fixed centers for early childhood education, and the creation of safe social spaces for young people.
It was emphasized that the recovery process is only possible through permanent and sustainable mechanisms, and family and academic support models implemented by institutions such as Koruncuk Foundation, AÇEV, TEGV, Sabancı Foundation, and Buradayız Hatay Association were shared. In the final part of the event, a report featuring best practice examples from Turkey and Europe (Romania, Italy, Croatia) was presented, stating that long-term inter-institutional cooperation and resource coordination are vital to ensure children's uninterrupted access to education.

The Impact of Civil Society Organizations on Access to Education
The “Access to Education: The Impact of Civil Society Organizations” conference, held at Kadir Has University and supported by Allianz Turkey on the 45th anniversary of the Koruncuk Foundation, brought together academics, experts, and leading NGO representatives to address the barriers to children's participation in education and the transformative power of civil society.
During the sessions, it was emphasized that economic difficulties, problems with transportation for students in rural areas, transportation barriers for individuals with special needs, and housing and infrastructure deficiencies in disaster areas make it difficult to continue education. Experiences shared from the field highlighted the roles of civil society organizations in making data gaps visible and advocating for action; while the need to strengthen school meal programs, support teachers with mentoring networks, implement family-focused development programs, and empower children psychosocially was also emphasized.
The complementary roles of NGOs were evaluated by presenting the scholarship, accommodation, academic and social development models of well-established institutions such as Darüşşafaka Society, Nesin Foundation, Turkish Education Foundation, TEVİTÖL, and Koruncuk Foundation. The conference's concluding statement called for reducing exam-focused pressure to ensure equal opportunities for every child to develop their potential, integrating the field experiences of NGOs into public education policies, and establishing sustainable collaborative networks.
